Braces
The
way that our teeth bite together is called the occlusion. People
who have teeth that don't bite together evenly have a malocclusion.
Teeth that are crooked, crowded or that protrude affect the way
you look. If you are not happy with the way your teeth look, braces
(orthodontic treatment) may help. The best time to have an orthodontic
assessment is around 8 years old. Treatment usually begins after
you have lost all your milk (baby) teeth, which is normally in
your early teens. This is when there is favourable growth to straighten
teeth. However there are cases that need earlier treatment, especially
cases that involve jaw developments. Hence, early assessment by
dentist is crucial in detecting these problems and tackle them
at the correct timing. Having said that, adults that realised
they need to straighten their teeth at later age still are able
to do so. Come for orthodontic assessment and we will do a very
detailed dental examination. If necessary, we may take a full
mouth x-ray and lateral cephalometric x-ray. These
show us how the facial bones and teeth are developing. If you
have any decayed teeth, these will need to be treated before orthodontic
treatment starts.
